Five for Friday

Hey Everyone,
I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for some Five for Friday Fun!

1. Gilmore Girls

Mmmm... Is there some kind of group I can join? It seems like every year around this time, I find myself re-watching the entire series of Gilmore Girls. Why, you ask? Beats me! I just love those two girls (mostly because I am just as nuts as they are AND I love to eat just as much as they do).
I also love that small town and the fact that it seems like it's always Fall on that show!

Did I mention the eating?! HeHe! And... The constant babbling...
The show was made with me in mind. That is all...

2. The Wand

Ok... My friends and I are obsessed with the curling wand. It is the first time in, well, EVER that I can create waves and curls myself. AND... It actually looks good!!!! It's incredible and get's incredibly hot but I love, love, love how pretty it makes me! Hehe!

There was a little mishap, back in September, when one second grade teacher may or may not have burned her cheek! Oh, boy! Thankfully it healed and all is good!

3. Overworked and Overtired

So we all know we are super passionate about our jobs and devote hours, upon hours, for our kiddies. I love every minute spent creating and planning to make sure my kiddies have a fantastic day EVERYDAY.

I also love sleep.

And lately, there has been more of the working than the sleeping and it's catching up to me!
Good thing I am off to a cottage this weekend to relax and spend time with some fabulous people (equally as Lorelei and Rory "like" as me)!

That was a little side note for my Gilmore Girls loving friends ;)

4. BB Committee

I think I have mentioned a few times that I am a founding member and second half of our school's Bulletin Board Committee. We go by BB Committee because we're cool like that.

We had made a beautiful, bright, green tree for our front entrance and now it has welcomed Fall.

5. Halloween Centers

We just wrapped this up this week and we had soooooo much fun!

Halloween Read/Write the Room and Treat Tags

It's me again!
I hope you all are having a fantastic week! I'm excited because after work tomorrow, I'm headed up north with some great friends to relax, laugh, and think about anything and everything but work!

Don't get me wrong, I love my job! We all know that! But, it's nice to take a weekend off to decompress and think about all the other wonderful things going on in life.

I just wanted to stop by and share some treats with you!
Not one but TWO freebies for my sweet, sweet friends!

The first is a Halloween Read/Write the Room.

The reason for this little baby is kinda funny!
My teaching partner's son is in my class and she told me that he really, really liked it when we did Read/Write the Room. Soooooo, I decided to make a Halloween edition!

You can thank him later!

If you're not familiar with Read/Write the Room, it's quite simple and fun!
You must hide the vocabulary cards all around your classroom. Supply your kiddies with a clipboard (You automatically become the world's coolest teacher), and ask students to go around (silently) looking for the words, reading them, and recording them.

It's literally tons of fun!
It's also really fun when you can't remember where you put the cards and don't pick them all up and then find them two weeks later! Hehe!

This literally happens to me E-V-E-R-Y time!
I have now officially overused the word LITERALLY! Which is quite funny because it is not really a word I typically use in spoken language... I literally NEVER say it... Hehe!

You can grab this freebie right over HERE!

I also made some cute treat tags for Halloween. I bought the kiddies some glow in the dark (once again... world's coolest teacher) reflectors (and other stuff too don't worry!) and decided that their Halloween should be Spooky and BRIGHT!

You can grab this freebie right over HERE!

Be sure to check out my Haunted Halloween Literacy Centers

We completed both this year and had soooooo much fun!!!!!

Today, in Second Grade Welcomes Fall!

Hi Everyone,
I'm so excited and my kiddies are thrilled because we are embracing the warm colors and cool weather and L-O-V-I-N-G Fall! Now, I know it's been around for a little while now, but we decorated our class today and we are SUPER pumped!

Who knew 30$ could get you a "Classroom Patch" of pumpkins!!! Hehehe!!!

We even have some goofy friends!
Names will be chosen, attachments will be made!

Here are a few more shots of our little pumpkin display!

A few years back we made these babies! It was so much fun and really added some Fall colors to our classroom! I'm thinking we are going to need to make some this year too!!!

These are going to make one cuuuuuuute bulletin board!!!
Check out this craftivity right HERE!

Last picture, I promise!
My good friend and I are heading the BB committee (also known as the Bulletin Board Committee).
In short, we are in charge of beautifying our school. We made a bright and green tree for our school entrance at the beginning of the school year and now it's embraced the Fall!!!

I looooooove it!
Only a teacher could appreciate a paper tree!! Hehehe!!!

Stinky Poems

Hello Everyone,
How was your Monday? Mine was, well STINKY! Yes, your read right! STINKY!
We had soooooo much fun writing Stinky Poems today.

First, we started off by picking gross, stinky, disgusting words out of our Frankenstein heads.

The words were meant to describe different aspects of our Halloween character. The students had the choice between a Werewolf, Frankenstein, a Witch, and a Vampire.

Would you like to take a guess as to which character was the most popular!!!!????
The Werewolf was all the rage and won by a landslide!

So, after picking their character, students picked words out of 6 Frankenstein Heads (love the Dollar Store). One to describe the character, one to describe its attire, one to describe what it smells like, one to describe what it feels like, one to describe what it sounds like, and one to describe how it makes the student feel.

The kiddies had soooooo much fun picking the words out and
"EWE" and "YUCK" were exclaimed all morning long!

This was such a great way to review synonyms and learn some new vocabulary.

After we filled out our sheets, we recopied our poems and completed our crafts.
Here  is the finished product and a taste of some of our Stinky Poems!

Click on the pictures to enlarge and read the poems!

Using Stamps in Centers

Good Morning Everyone,
I'm so excited to link up (AGAIN) with some F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S bloggers in yet another amazing Bright Ideas Blog Hop!

This is such a great way to get, well, BRIGHT ideas!

This month's BRIGHT idea is one that I use all year round. It is also a great tool to use in any classroom and at any grade level.

I call it: Stamping Fun!
Stop at your local Dollar Store and grab yourself a basket!

I use them for E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G and the kiddies get a real kick out of it!

I love to integrate manipulatives and fun trinkets in my lessons. I feel that it makes the activities more meaningful and fun.

The students are engaged when they can “play” during a lesson.

This past week we have been learning about patterns in math. This has proven to be quite a difficult concept to grasp. The use of shapes, colors, Smartboard, etc... was just not cutting it!

I decided to mix things up a little and use Halloween stamps (since Halloween is coming up) to practice.

The mere fact that they were doing something “different” made the kiddies more interested in what they were doing. They were interested and in turn, took the lesson very seriously.

All I did was create a simple worksheet with some basic pattern rules and gave each group of students the appropriate stamps needed to complete the sheet.

Voila! Instant, fun, inexpensive, math center!
Oh, and I let each kiddie keep a stamp!

You can use them for absolutely anything (well maybe not anything, but ALMOST)!
Be sure to make it interesting!

  • Spelling Centers (alphabet stamps)
  • Number Lines (number stamps)
  • Story Starters
  • Sequencing Activities
  • Number Correspondence
And many, many more!

As I mentioned, the possibilities are endless!

Haunted Halloween Literacy Centers

Hi Friends,
I hope you are all doing well! Wow! Thursday already! The weeks just keep flying by...
I think it's because we are having soooooooooooo much fun!!!!!

Yesterday, we began our Haunted Halloween Literacy Centers. They are proving to be loads of fun and excitement. The kiddies are engaged and learning to read and write Halloween vocabulary words.

Here are some actions shots of our centers.

Bingo and Reading Comprehension

ABC Order

Word Detective (my personal fave!)

Spelling with Window Writers (another popular one!)

Costume Writing

This pack also includes a Memory Game Center and a Word Search Center. There is a 39 word Halloween themed word wall and most centers (8 in all) include the 39 theme words. This ensures that the students recognize and write these new vocabulary words by the end of the center rotation.

I am loving how engaged they are during centers because I get to do some guided reading while they work! I am soooooo loving this group! They are amazing and love to learn!

Check out this pack right over HERE!
