Spring Activities

Hello Everyone,

We have had so much fun reading writing and learning about RAIN!

Here's a little throwback with some new material too!!!

A glimpse at last year's door... Still working on this year's Spring door!

We read about Tommy and his love for playing outside. 

We always have a grammar focus in our lessons. Today, I wanted to make sure they stuck to one verb tense in their writing!

Then we wrote our own rainy day stories!

I love the way they turned out! The kiddies have come SUCH a long way and Writer's Workshop is our favorite block! 

After we wrote our stories, we made some rainy day crafts! They are adorbs! I can't!!!

Here is our Spring Bulletin Board!

The kiddies were so interested in RAIN that we read some more about how it all is formed in my Spring Non-Ficiton Mini-Book. They loooooove reading these non-fiction books and they get to bring them home and share their new knowledge with their families!

I also test their new knowledge with the accompanying comprehension questions!

Let's Honor & Remember

Good Morning Friends, 

This week in Second Grade, we are going to be honoring and remembering our veterans. 

This is an important unit for me because my grandfather was a veteran and I feel it is essential to teach students about the brave men and women who have fought for our safety and freedom. 

I also find that students are very interested in learning about veterans and the various jobs and roles they hold. 

We learn all about this in my Veterans/Remembrance Day read aloud. We also learn all kinds of new vocabulary. Words that describe veterans. 

These words are also included in our black and white version of the read aloud, as well as the spelling helpers. 

   

After reading the read aloud, highlighting vocabulary words, and reviewing the spelling helpers, students complete a veteran map. They use adjectives to describe veterans and then write stories about them.

They make a craft to go along with their stories.

Some students then share their stories at our Remembrance/Veterans Day assembly.

Crazy for Fall!

Good Morning Friends, 

I'm back today to tell you a little bit about my Crazy for Fall pack and our Fall week at school.

We had so much fun!

First, we read the real aloud. It's all about some Autumn friends who are enjoying the extended Summer weather. Of, course, Fall does finally make an appearance and they don't quite appreciate it at first! After the read aloud, we wrote a class story and the kiddies wrote individual stories too. Finally we made some fun crafts and chose a variety of funny, crazy faces to put on our friends.

         

   

This same week, we also wrote some stories about scarecrows. The kiddies had fun making my bestie's scarecrow craft. Love this Fall Craftivity by All Students can Shine. 

   

Of course with all of these Fall crafts ad stories we had to do some reading comprehension!

My Draw a Poem pack has the perfect Scarecrow activity!

         

The kiddies had so much fun following the directions and making their own scarecrow. 

They also enjoyed colouring a scarecrow from my Coloring Comprehension pack.

         

Finally, we had to jump in the leaves! It's a must!

I love the way these stories and crafts turned out! Such a fun and festive bulletin board display!

Fall is my absolute favorite season and I am so glad we had so much fun celebrating in class!
